Last week I had the pleasure of training almost 200 agents in the lower mainland over the course of 2 days. If you have attended one of my live trainings, you will know that I always keep track of every attendee’s A-HA moment from the training.
A-HA (what new thing did you learn that resonated with you, or tip that you will use moving forward)
Well, I got 2 giant A-HA moments for myself that I MUST share. During the 4 trainings, I learned that the majority of agents did not know 2 VERY IMPORTANT things.
1) Manulife covers future travel credits
2) every policy must cover the client for the entire duration of their trip (door to door)
Here is the critera in order for us to pay claims when your client has received a Future travel Credits:
- Trip must depart
- Client cancels for a covered reason
- Original terms and conditions are available at time of booking
When all 3 above are satisfied, Manulife will be in a position to reimburse your client(s) in accordance with their Terms and Conditions as of date of cause for cancellation.
So please make sure you are including ALL components of travel in the sum insured, because your clients want their cash back….not credits!!!!
DOOR TO DOOR COVERAGE:
For a policy to be valid, your clients must be covered for the entire duration of their trip. If they book only a cruise or tour with you and book the air on their own…it is your responsibility to make sure you know their full dates of travel, and that it is included in their policy coverage. They MUST be covered from the day they leave their house, until the day they arrive home.
Make sure you advise your clients that they need to call you immediately when they add important components to their trip like air and hotel on their own. You will need to extend that PPP policy and or add sum insured within 72-hours of that purchase date.
*While we do not recommend not insuring the airfare, if the client chooses not to, they still need to make sure the entire duration of their trip is covered. So, you must insure the date they fly out.
Let’s make sure you are covering your client door to door and all components of their trip! That way they get all their money back if they make a valid claim. WIN/WIN for everyone!
